The Mojix STAR 3000 is a game changer for RFID tracking, both in terms of technology and economics. Built on deep space communication technology designed to detect very weak radio signals, the EPC Gen2-compliant Mojix STAR 3000 can read the signal from an excited passive RFID tag as far as 600 feet/182 meters away — which is 20 times the range of traditional systems. The world's longest range RFID receiver is now available at a lower cost with more functionality.
This unprecedented range, coupled with the lowcost Mojix eNode exciters and advanced location algorithms, translates into the ability to accomplish something new — asset visibility — with low cost passive tags instead of the previously required and substantially more expensive active tags. With the Mojix STAR 3000, the economics of item-level tracking make sense. This opens up new realms of possibility, including presence detection, precision location tracking in large areas, security and authentication. Furthermore, one system can support multiple business processes in the same location and overlay an existing system with no conflict.
Whether in manufacturing plants, distribution centers or retail environments, the Mojix STAR 3000 delivers significant operational benefits and ROI.
Unique Architecture. New Possibilities.
Previously, the only options available to passive RFID users were to either bring the goods to a portal reader or bring a handheld reader to the goods. The Mojix STAR 3000's advanced digital signal processing (DSP) technology enables an innovative architecture — and a whole new physical layout. The architecture consists of the following:
Low-cost Mojix eNodes (exciter nodes with 4-16 antennas) which provide the energy to excite any passive EPC Gen II RFID tags that enter or exit their coverage area.
A centralized Mojix STAR 3000 receiver to detect the tag transmissions.
A Master Controller to manage the system and also processes the raw data into standard Application Layer Events (ALE) — compatible data for use by enterprise systems as well as to manage system-based alerts via standard network management applications.
The coverage area of each eNode is defined by the placement and orientation of its exciter antennas, as well as their power output, which determines the size of the zone. The eNodes' coverage area can be tailored to the business process and can be optimized for tag density or a variety of other coverage requirements. This unique architecture also allows for true Real Time Location of EPC-based passive tags. With a 100:1 price ratio between active and passive tags, the new economics of active tag capabilities with passive tag costs can now be realized.
This approach removes the cost and technical barriers to wide-area deployments and enables passive RFID data to be utilized for supporting multiple business processes — not just portals.
Innovative Features. Unlimited Flexibility.
1,000,000 Square Foot Range. The ability to network multiple Mojix STAR 3000 systems extends the potential coverage area to 1,000,000 ft2/ 92,903 m2.
Down to 1 Meter Accuracy. The Mojix system's accuracy can be tuned as desired (by adding eNodes with tight spacing) to a precision level of one meter, enabling precise tracking when needed.
Near 100% Tag Read Reliability. With a reliable read rate of excited tags exceeding 99.9 percent, the Mojix STAR 3000 provides trustworthy data to manage business processes like manufacturing, WIP, or controlling goods in retail environments.
Simple, Low-Cost Scalability. The Mojix system's range can be extended at any time to support additional business use cases simply by adding more eNodes to create new coverage areas at a low incremental cost. This allows the Mojix STAR 3000 to deal with any barriers that may be present in a large-scale environment.
Mobile/Wired/Wireless Support. Supports both mobile, wired and wireless eNodes to provide total flexibility in dealing with any physical space or business use case.
Enterprise Ready. The system's Master Controller (MCON) processes raw RFID data into industry standard ALE messages which get published to Warehouse Management Systems and other back office software. System monitoring alerts can also be sent to standard network and device management applications. MCON data is transformed as follows:
- RTLS Report: Time stamp, EPCs plus X, Y and Z coordinates
- Dock Door Report: Time stamp, EPCs, door location and direction, coordinates, (in/out)
This capability allows those applications to offload resource-intensive signal processing, which is a significant drain on CPU cycles.
Mission Critical. The Mojix STAR 3000's ruggedized and weatherproof packaging ensures reliability in harsh indoor and outdoor environments, including those with high condensation and high wind conditions.
